People & Culture Specialist (Consulting)
Practical P&C consulting advice, grounded in real workplaces.
Hamilton | Flexible | Variety, pace, and real influence
If you like one workplace, one leadership style, and one set of priorities… this probably isn’t your role.
At Everest, you’ll move between businesses and leaders sometimes in the same day. You could be advising a CEO, a business owner, or partnering alongside an established HR team. You’ll need to listen fast, assess quickly, and provide clear, confident advice that stands up commercially and legally.
We’re looking for a People & Culture Specialist with a genuine consulting mindset, someone who enjoys complexity, can think on their feet, and knows how to turn “messy people problems” into practical, compliant solutions.
About Everest
Everest is a Waikato-based team supporting organisations across New Zealand with people & culture advice, recruitment, training and coaching. We’re known for being practical, relationship-focused, and easy to work with - a trusted partner when the work gets real.
Our approach is grounded in partnership: taking time to understand the direction and culture of each business, building strong stakeholder relationships, and helping leaders lift capability with fit-for-purpose frameworks and tools.
The work (and why it’s interesting)
This role is for someone who enjoys range and autonomy and who can shift gears quickly.
On any given week, you might be:
Advising on employment relations, performance, investigations, and “what do we do next?” moments
Partnering with leaders to design solutions that are both practical and compliant
Building or improving HR foundations - employment documentation, policies, processes, and frameworks
Helping businesses strengthen how they manage people: expectations, feedback, change, and capability
Bringing a strategic HRBP lens - balancing risk, relationships, and momentum
Facilitating training or coaching conversations (if that’s a strength you bring)
This is not “template HR”. It’s advisory work that requires judgement, curiosity, and the ability to pull information together quickly and make it useful. (You’ll be supported - but you’ll also be trusted.)
What we’re looking for
We’re after someone who is solutions-focused, commercially aware, and confident giving advice - not just gathering information.
You’ll likely bring:
Proven experience in HR/People & Culture with consulting or multi-site exposure (or a clear consulting-style approach)
Strong working knowledge of NZ employment legislation and a commitment to doing things properly. Perhaps you're even an Employment Lawyer looking for a change!
The ability to analyse quickly, spot what matters, and communicate clear options
Creativity in problem-solving - not “fluffy”, but practical and effective
Strong stakeholder skills - comfortable at CEO/owner level and able to partner alongside HR teams
A calm, professional approach under pressure, with sound judgement and follow-through
Bonus points if you can train, facilitate, coach, or bring an established professional network you can leverage
If you have a Private Investigator licence that’s a winner in our eyes!
Why Everest
Because you’ll get variety, autonomy, and meaningful work with a collaborative team that backs each other and genuinely cares about quality. We’re in the business of helping organisations build capability and culture, not just “fixing issues” and we like to have fun along the way!
