WEL Energy Trust is the 100% shareholder of WEL Networks Ltd, proudly holding and managing these shares on behalf of our community. The seven Trustees work strategically to be active and responsible asset owners adopting investment strategies that sustain and grow community assets for today's needs and future generations.
The Trust receives annual dividends from WEL Networks Ltd and the bulk of this is distributed via various community grants programmes.
WEL Energy Trust’s Community Investment Strategy 2025-2028 outlines the key focus areas for the Trust, including Strategic Intent, financial investments and Community investments through electricity rebates/discounts and community grants.
Based in the heart of Hamilton City, you’ll be joining a close-knit team of five dedicated professionals. In this role, you will report directly to the Grants Manager and play a vital part in helping the Trust deliver meaningful outcomes for our community.
About the Role
You will assist in administering the Grants programme alongside the Grants Advisor and Grants Manager. You will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the delivery of existing grants programmes via the SmartyGrants online grants management system, maintaining grants process functions and reporting through this system. This involves data entry, reviewing applications, compiling reports and the taking of notes.
- Ensuring that tasks for grant assessments are allocated and monitored.
- Providing administrative support in activities related to the review and evaluation of grant making and distributions.
- Actively participating in team meetings, planning, process updates and projects.
- Building genuine and well-rounded relationships with the applicant community and local funders. Occasionally getting out and about with the Grants Manager and Grants Advisor to meet applicant groups.
- Management and follow up of overdue or incomplete acquittals (grant response forms).
- Maintaining WEL Energy Trust’s Facebook page and website, working with the Trust Administrator with Trust communications publications and platforms.
About you
We’re looking for an organised Administrator with strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders, organisations, and groups. You will bring:
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office capabilities. Database/CRM experience and/or the experience to analyse systems to make improvements.
- High level written communication skills.
- Understanding of social media, marketing and communications applications.
- An awareness of AI to take the Trust’s data, reporting and processes to the next level.
- An eye for detail and the ability to analyse and review large volumes of information/applications.
- Previous grants or funding experience is an advantage.
- An understanding of your community; maybe you have worked in a not-for-profit, voluntary or community environment.
- An understanding and appreciation for Tangata Whenuatanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership.
