About the organisation
The Student Residence Trust Aotearoa trading as Hatch Student Living is a registered charity that provides accommodation for Wintec students. Wintec | Te Pῡkenga is one of New Zealand’s most progressive and leading Institutes of Technology.
The Trust has been in operation since 1983 and it operates three facilities accommodating 155 residents: Wintec Student Village suitable for school leavers, offering catering and a high level of pastoral care; the self-catered Wintec Apartments for older and more mature students; and two stand-alone self-contained units (on the Rotokauri Campus).
About the role
The Residential Services Manager manages a team of six Residential Leaders, maintenance and grounds staff, and cleaning and catering contractors. The role reports to the Trust’s General Manager, and works closely with the finance & administration staff, who also report to the General Manager.
The Residential Services Manager is responsible for:
- Day-to-day operations within all facilities, ensuring residents have a positive residential community experience.
- Establishing and maintaining community, organising social activities for the residents to enjoy.
- Co-ordinating contractors and suppliers to carry out facilities repairs and maintenance.
- Engaging with residents (and parents of Under 18-year-olds), providing on-site assistance when required.
- Leading health and safety initiatives to ensure the safety and mental wellbeing of all residents.
You will live on-site, so it will be important that you can manage your own time well and know how to place boundaries on how accessible you are, whilst balancing the needs of your student residents. The facilities operate 24/7 but this doesn’t mean you need to.
About you
Hatch Student Living is looking for a relentlessly positive and energetic person to oversee the day-to-day running of accommodation for Wintec |Te Pūkenga students! Our ideal candidate will bring:
- Previous student accommodation experience preferred, with some aspects of the role you can learn.
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills, leading by example and providing a safe space for your residents.
- Plenty of self-motivation, initiative and drive. This is an autonomous role, and you will be required to manage your own time.
- A high level of resilience and emotional intelligence to keep you grounded in this role.
- A mature attitude, someone who relates to and communicates well with others.
- A tertiary education, so you would understand the environment you’d be working in.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
This is not your usual 9am-5pm role. We are looking for someone who’s flexible, diligent and can structure their day in a way that works for them and their residents.
The accommodation facilities are situated across the city, so it’s important that you have a full driver’s licence and a good level of physical fitness.
